The following Statement of Beliefs represent the core beliefs that define Currey Creek Church in its ministries, missions, and membership. It is not meant to be an exhaustive description of, or listing of all beliefs as it relates to the Christ follower in this day and age. It does however serve as an anchor point that the church leadership will continually reference. Structurally speaking, they are the connecting point between the church’s adopted Constitution which outlines the legal and administrative governance of the church, and the church’s specific operating Policies. Both reference back to the Statement of Beliefs, and ultimately the Bible for guidance.
Membership in Currey Creek Church is first predicated on becoming a follower of Jesus Christ. Then as a Christ follower, an agreement upon the church’s core beliefs. This is for the purpose of preserving unity within His church, as a witness to the world. (John 17:23)
The appropriate response to the unbeliever in relation to the core beliefs of a follower of Jesus Christ is, biblically speaking, one of compassion, love, and kindness.
God’s word to us. It was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to man. It has God for its author, salvation through Jesus Christ for its end, and truth, without any error, for its matter. (Ps 119:11, 89, 105, 140; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21) As such, we believe it to be fully sufficient and authoritative for instructing us in all truth.
The one and only living and true God, the Creator of all things. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being (commonly known as the Trinity). (Gen 1:1; Matt 28:19; 1 Peter 1:17; 1 Jn 1:5)
The eternal Son of God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God. He lived a sinless life and suffered death on the cross, which made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead and showed his power over sin and death. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. (Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1-18, 14:7-11; Acts 1:9; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Cor. 15:1-8; Titus 2:13-14; Hebrews 4:14-15)
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and judgment. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service. (John 14:16-17, 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 2:10-14, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14, 5:18)
Created by the special act of God, in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, they are all marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God and His word called "sin". In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. This sin has separated mankind from God. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. (Genesis 1:26-30; Psalm 8:3-6; Romans 3:23)
Is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. When we turn from our sins and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Salvation includes regeneration, sanctification, and glorification. (John 1:12-14; Romans 3:23, 8:28-39; Ephesians 2:1-10; Titus 3:5)
A local body of believers who are associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel. A body committed to His teachings, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. (Acts 2:41-42; Romans 1:7; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18; 1 Peter 5:1-4)
Immersing a willing believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 1:9; Acts 8:36-39, 18:8)
The Lord’s Supper
A symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the body of Christ, in remembrance of Christ, partake of the bread and the fruit of the vine so as to memorialize the death of their Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. (Luke 3:21-22; John 3:23; Acts 2:41-42; 1 Cor. 11:23-24)
The Last Days
God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth. The dead will be raised and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord. (Matthew 18:8-9; Luke 12:40; Acts 17:31; 2 Cor. 5:10; James 5:8; 1 John 2:28; Revelation 20:1 – 22:13)
It is the privilege of every follower or Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. It is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to share Christ with the lost that they might come to know His saving grace. (Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 3:1-11; 1 Thess. 1:8; Hebrews 2:1-3, 1 Peter 3:15)
God is the source of all blessings, both temporal and spiritual. All that we have and are we owe to Him. According to scripture, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer’s cause on earth. (Malachi 3:8-12; Matthew 23:23; Philippians 4:10-19; 1 Peter 1:18-19)
God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. (Genesis 2:15-25; Matthew 5:31-32; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Timothy 5:8,14; Titus 2:3-5; 1 Peter 3:1-7) Furthermore, biblical marriage is defined as the permanent union between one man and one woman, with “man” and “woman” being defined by their biological creation at birth. (Genesis 1:27)
