Connections Ministry

I have always loved being around people, but this last year has shown me even more how much I cherish getting to meet together and share life with others. Our hope is that when you walk in the doors of Currey Creek, you know how glad we are that you are here and how special you are! On any given Sunday morning we are averaging ten to twelve new families that are visiting the Connections Desk in the lobby. It is such a blessing! What a gift to gather and worship, grow in our faith, and share each other’s joys and sorrows. We are not meant to walk through this life alone! The Connections Ministry is created to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our church through our Creek Care Team and Welcome Team.


CREEK CARE TEAM

The Creek Care team is comprised of three different areas: hospitality, prayer and service. It is our desire to love others well and be the hands and feet of Christ. We want to mourn with you when you mourn and rejoice with you when you rejoice. We invite the broken and suffering to come and receive hope and care.

• Hospitality – provides meals for others in times of need

• Prayer Team – prays for the needs of the people at Currey Creek and our mission partners

• Service Team – assists with physical needs and projects for others. This can be within


WELCOME TEAM

If you love people, have a warm and inviting smile and love to serve, we would love to have you on the Welcome Team. Each ministry within the Welcome Team has the sweet blessing of getting to serve alongside each other once a month, as well as build deeper community.

• Coffee Team – prepares coffee before and during each worship service for the church

• Communion Team – prepares the communion elements before the services

• Greeters – welcomes everyone that comes into church and answers any questions

• Ushers – welcomes


Our heart is that everyone that comes to Currey Creek will feel seen and known. If you are already one of our amazing volunteers that serves in some way, we are so grateful for your sacrifice. In March of 1871 a young newspaper reporter from New York set out from the Port of Bagamoyo, in what is now the country of Tanzania. He was looking for a missionary who had been presumed dead for some time. By November of that same year he had traversed over 700 miles on foot before arriving at the village of Ujiji, which is just south of Burundi. There, he caught a glimpse of an emaciated European. Approaching the man, Henry Morton Stanley asked, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?”. It is one of the most famous meetings and greetings in modern history.


Long before Stanley and Livingstone met, Jesus had deliberately set out from Galilee for Jericho. Jesus, like Stanley, was looking for a man. Once in Jericho, Jesus looked up and said to Zaccheus, “…hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” Zaccheus’s life was transformed by meeting Christ that day.


What we are after at Currey Creek is for people to meet Jesus. We desire to create an attractive and welcoming experience for those who have not yet trusted Christ as their personal Lord and Savior or are looking for a church home. Church growth experts say that a first-time guest to your church makes a decision to come back, or not, in the first ten minutes of their time on campus. That is before the music and long before the sermon! This is why having a vibrant connections ministry is vital for a healthy, growing church.


Shelly Williams heads up our connections ministry and does a fantastic job of incorporating others into the ministry who do a fantastic job of welcoming others to our church. If ever there was someone created for this ministry, it is Shelly! For those of you who have had the privilege of interacting with Shelly, you know what I am talking about. We are thankful for the part the connections ministry plays not only in welcoming guests to Currey Creek but also for the role the ministry plays in assimilating new members into our church.


First impressions matter. Being acknowledged as a person matters. Being attached and functioning as a member of the body of Christ is critical to discipleship. All of these roles play a part in our spiritual growth. Amazingly, it all starts with a simple greeting that can lead to a life changing encounter with Christ. Next time you see someone serving in our Connections ministry or one of our greeters, thank them for making Currey Creek a place of hospitality.
