John's March Article:
We are very excited to welcome Ross Hendrickson and his family to the staff and family of Currey Creek! Ross has extensive experience in children’s ministry, and we believe he will be a great asset to the ministry here. We have had such incredible people work in and with our children’s ministry over the years to bring us to the point that we need full time pastoral leadership. Because of all his experience, Ross understands and appreciates all the hard work that has gone into laying the strong foundation he will be building on. Having the luxury of being able to staff to specific needs was only a dream here at Currey Creek just a few years ago. Sharing the responsibility, delegating tasks, and being a blessing to the people is not new to God’s plan for his people.
In Exodus 18 we read of an account in which Moses’ father-in-law Jethro is observing Moses adjudicating civil cases brought to him by the people. Jethro speaks to Moses at the end of a long day and asks him, “Why are you working alone all day?” He then goes on to comment that how Moses is working all day by himself to accomplish a task is not good for Moses or the people. Jethro then goes on to propose a plan in which responsibilities are divided among capable leaders to ease the burden on Moses as well as the people who were waiting all day to be heard.
For years Currey Creek languished because I thought that as pastor of a small church, I should shoulder all the responsibility for ministry since I was the leader. As a result, nothing in the area of ministry flourished. Not only that, I was exhausted and frustrated. I’m sure the church was the latter! I finally surrendered my pride and admitted to myself that I didn’t have an “S” on my chest. I set out to hire called, competent, and committed people. I have no doubt that God has used our staff to help Currey Creek grow. As a result, I’m not as tired, our staff is serving faithfully above and beyond simple duty, we have amazing volunteers, and Currey Creek is the better for it. I believe Ross is another great addition that will be a blessing to our families. So, the next time you see Ross and his family say hello and welcome him to Currey Creek. Above all, thank God for his plan and abundant provision!
