Worship & Lead
I started leading worship while in student ministry. I was in middle school and our youth group needed someone to lead the songs. At the time I played bass and was “voluntold” to learn guitar and start singing. So, I learned acoustic in a month and sheepishly began to lead in worship. I was scared. What did it for me is that I had men to look up to, men who along the way poured into me and developed me. From these men I learned, and I fell in love with corporate worship. I will always remember my adult worship leader back home in Brenham, TX. He was an old country cowboy who, with a sweet smile and love in his eyes pushed me to passionately hone my skills and fall more in love with Christ. Men like him showed me what it was to be an authentic worship leader, and it set my heart on fire.
In my office I have a big whiteboard. On the top corner I have written 1 Timothy 2:8, “I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.” This passage means a lot to me, it influences the way I operate as a Worship Pastor. Daily I pray for the men of our church, whom God has given great responsibility. I pray that we can be Biblical examples in our home and that we raise up strong leaders. To be a leader, one has to be a strong worshiper in every aspect of our lives. I pray that we do not forsake the Sunday morning gathering (Heb 10:25).
It is my heart’s desire that the whole church can be moved by the power of the Gospel and that our affections to be stirred during a corporate worship setting and that we would not be afraid to express ourselves as seen in 1 Timothy. This can only happen if our affections are stirred by the Word of God. It is important that men be able to lead in this way. For some of us that is easier than others but what I do ask is this, “What kind of example are you setting for your family?” It is my desire for wives and children to look at men and be inspired to fall more in love with Christ.
Never would have thought I would have the privilege to be where I am at now, at such a sweet church with sweet people and sweet families. I am blessed to lead you in worship. Thank you for trusting me. It is my desire to lead you and your family in holding fast to the profession of our faith and to sing out the Gospel message, drawing you into a deeper relationship with Christ.
