The year was 1898 and in a small living room, J.M. Mizzel
along with 6 other charter members began First Baptist
Church in Boerne, TX. It is fun for me to imagine what being in
that room would have been like, as they began forming the
church. Were they anticipating large growth in this little town?
Were they thinking that they would be able to reach people for
Christ in ways that other churches in the area were not?
It’s fun for me to imagine the beginning of that church, but it is
also fun for me to look at the facts. Fact: because of their
obedience to start FBC Boerne, we now have 5 churches in the
Hill Country sharing the gospel and transforming lives.
Because 7 people said “yes” to God’s mission in 1898, today we
have an estimated 3,500 people in attendance in all 5
churches on a weekly basis. Through First Baptist’s kingdom
mindset, they helped start Currey Creek Church, 19:10
Church, Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel Church, and Riding the
River Cowboy Church in Bandera. You see, the gospel always
multiplies. As the good news is shared, a natural byproduct is
that men and women step out of their comfort zones and begin
a new work.
That is what we are experiencing today. As Currey Creek has
grown, we have a burden to begin a new work to reach more
people with the gospel in our area. Just like First Baptist sent
out John Free, resources, and people to begin Currey Creek in
the year 2000, we are now sending Jared Patrick, resources,
and people to begin The Bridge Fellowship.
In the midst of uncertain times, we are certain in the mission
Jesus put before us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you” Matthew 28:19. We are called to make
disciples and the way we go about it is through multiplication.
We are praying that God would move in big ways through the
efforts of Currey Creek Church and The Bridge Fellowship.
We are praying that the estimated 12,000 people moving to
our area over the next few years would find a gospel-centered
church home and that disciples would be made. We are praying
that the legacy of a church that plants churches would
continue, and that God would receive all the glory!
Would you
pray for Currey Creek as we send out? Would you pray for The
Bridge Fellowship as we step out in faith this September?
Is God calling you? We would love for you to join us! Visit
