John's September Article
Church Family,
I don’t know about you, but I am tired of news about COVID-19! We cannot bury our heads in the sand and act as if it isn’t real, to do so would be foolish. We can, and I would add should, avert our minds to things that are above. The depth of Currey Creek’s discipleship takes precedence over everything. Jesus commanded us to make disciples, not merely converts. It is in discipleship that we are conformed to the image of Christ. It is in discipleship that some are burdened for their neighbors and others for the nations. It is in discipleship that we learn to parent. It is in discipleship that we learn how to view the number one competitor for our hearts, money. Discipleship governs all of life. That is why we place an emphasis on making and becoming disciples at Currey Creek. We also recognize the blessings of God to provide for our needs in this crucial area.
We have been so very blessed to have incredible facilities here at Currey Creek. In the midst of COVID-19 we have been able to provide social distancing because we have large spaces. We have many of these spaces which allows us to offer multiple classes on a variety of topics. What a blessing! For many years, Currey Creek did not have the space necessary to provide these great opportunities. The generosity of God’s people to give sacrificially has provided us with multiple venues to offer classes.
We are also blessed to have been provided with competent and gifted teachers. Women and men, younger and older, laymen and staff, all have participated in the discipleship ministry of Currey Creek. I am so grateful to the Lord for having provided abundantly for Currey Creek! Stuart Head will lead our Adult Discipleship for the time being. Stuart has a great heart for the Lord, has learned a lot during his seminary education, is well organized, and is ready to actively teach. I’m grateful for his taking up the mantle of responsibility to skillfully lead this crucial ministry.
Where do you fit into all of this? Are you actively pursuing becoming a disciple? I want to encourage you to invest in one of our class offerings. I have no doubt that the Lord will bless your efforts, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:1-2
In Christ,
